Curtains Up Pagosa has been the support behind the PSHS Performing Arts Department for almost 20 years! CUP recently presented the Drama Department with a check for $100 for purchases of books, scripts and other theatrical needs. Sean Downing, beloved teacher and mentor for his students, manages the high school’s Drama program, which provides a training ground for students as they venture into other performance opportunities. Downing’s students are currently preparing and are in rehearsal for their next play to be held in late winter. Curtains Up is proud to be in partnership with the performing arts in our schools!

Ryan Hazelbaker, Resident Director and Choreographer for Thingamajig Theater Company, takes time out from working dance numbers with PSHS actors in preparation for the high school musical, “Legally Blonde”! Directed by Dale Johnson, with Musical Direction by Dan Burch, the show opens March 29th and runs until April 2nd.

Curtains Up Pagosa recently purchased two make-up dvds and a book of monologues for the Theater Department at the high school. CUP is the mentoring organization in support of the performing arts in our schools.

“Hairspray” opened on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theater in 2002 and ran for six years and over 2,600 performances.
The musical garnered over six Tony awards, and received accolades and great attendance in Pagosa Springs.
Included in our marvelous cast: Hannah Hemenger, Ryder Searle, Hayley Mitchell, Brayden Mitchell, Arron Clark, Ayriana Rackham, Connor Burkesmith, Jackie Hampton, Michael Talamante, Jacqueline Garcia, Faith Heitz, Brock Cordova, Maria Campuzano, Kailey Carr, Pitcher Lindner, Tyler Ybarra, Summer Candelaria, Devon Jurcak, Mariah Snarr, Morgan Schaaf, Shannel Wilson, Courtney Bishop, Julian Butler, Ahia Kaeser, Jessicah Wellman, Averie Lynch, Madison Greenly, Zoe Geraghty, Cierra Corley and student apprentice DeAnn Schaaf.
The PSHS Theater Department proudly presents their One-Act presentation for this school year: “The Very UnMerry Adventures of Robin Hood” by Patrick Greene and Jason Pizzarello.

The PSHS Music & Theater Departments are thrilled and excited to announce their Spring Musical, “Grease”, a 50’s rock’n’roll extravaganza by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Thirteen years ago, Lisa Hartley, the then music director at the high school, first produced this wonderful production for our students and community. It will be a “Grease” revival in Pagosa Springs! Rehearsals have been underway for a month with the cast of 45 actors & singers – there are over 20 song and dance numbers to prepare for! Directors Dan Burch, Dale Johnson, Venita Burch, Sally Neel and Darcy DeGuise are spending their evenings jiving with the best of the 50’s. There will be five performances, May 1 – 5, 2012 at the high school. Save the dates! We anticipate large audiences each night.
